Chris Spencer is a good friend and a terrifically talented artist. The Wine Rhino character underwent many revisions with the input of the entire team, but it was Chris's superb ability that put it together for us. The bird who accompanies our rhino sommelier was loosely based on the image of co-founder David Weitzenhoffer. Chris and David met about two years ago in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Chris now lives in Italy. That's right, our cartoons arrive through the miracle that is the Internet.
Chris received a BA from Brandeis University in 1999. He then studied fine art for at the Scuola Lorenzo de'Medici in Florence, Italy. He returned to Massachusetts obtained a professional certificate in illustration from the Art Institute of Boston. But Italy was calling his name. He once again left Boston, and his hometown of New Haven, Connecticut for Tuscany. He has been studying reconstructive postmodernism art theory in painting and sculpture under South African artists Rose Shakinovsky and Claire Gavronsky. Chris lives and works on a wine-producing villa called "La Cipressaia" in Montagnana near Cerbaia. The wine they make is affordable, and they recently beat out the Antonoris for a prize of Best Vin Santo in Chianti.
Chris is a valuable member of Wine Rhino, without whom the site would be inferior and infinitely less fun.
The painting shown with this article is a watercolor created in his workshop in Italy. It makes you feel a need for a vacation doesn't it?
